ACID WASH
(Acid Cellulase)
INTRODUCTION:
TLP
ACID WASH is M.L. latest development in the
area of enzymes for finishing of cellulosic materials
like cottons. Viscose, Tencel etc and is widely used
for giving stone washed effect on Denims. TLP
ACID WASH is a Acid cellulolytic enzyme.
Enzymes are obtained on fermentation of genetically
engineered, non - pathogenic moulds. TLP ACID
WASH imparts greyish cast to the Indigo after
enzyme washing.
ADVANTAGES
OF USING ENZYMES:

and hence create a very consistent, homogeneous

APPLICATION
Enzymatic
“stone washing or Bio washing” as it is
referred to comprises of 3 main steps:
DESIZING
BIOWASHING
FINISHING
DESIZING
:
This
is the first step in Biowashing and involves the removal
of the starch size from the denim fabric / garment
using a starch – hydrolyzing enzyme system such
as DEL DESIZING. Desizing is recommended
to be carried out at an optimal pH range of 6.5 - 7.0
and an optimal temperature range of 65 - 70 deg C (150
– 160 deg F) for a period of 20 mins with a
DEL DESIZING dose
rate of 4 to 6 grams per Kg of denim fabric / garment
( 1.4 oz per 100 lbs of denim fabric). However, the
effective range of temperature and pH as well as the
Enzyme dose level is wider than the above optimal
range and may be adjusted based on individual requirements.

to provide any assistance on desizing.
SIGNIFICANCE
OF SIZE REMOVAL:
If
the size is not removed up to the desired extent,
the crease marks might remain in the denim, Which
in turn can cause streaks. The final effect and stiffness
of the Denim can also be controlled by controlling
the extent of desizing.

water level during Desizing operation has to be
ensured. |
BIOWASHING
:
On
completion of desizing which is traditionally checked
by “ handfeel” to observe absence of “stickiness”,
the liquor is drained and rinsed with plain water.
The fabric / garment is then steeped in water at a
ratio of approximately 1: 5 to 1:10 and the temperature
is raised to 50 – 52 Deg C. The starting pH
of water should be at 4.5 - 5.5
TLP ACID WASH is then dosed at 5 - 10 gms per
garment. Bio washing is carried out for a period of
60 to 90 mins depending on the tint and enzyme effect
desired ensuring that the temperature is maintained
between 50 - 52 Deg C.

FINISHING
:
At the end of Biowashing which
is evaluated by the required “ stone washed
appearance, the liquor is drained and the denim fabric
/ garment is rinsed with plain water to remove the
surplus indigo and loose colour.
TLP ACID WASH creates excellent Abrasion
on the denim with grey casting. The denim is then
washed with a heavy duty detergent for approximately
20 minutes at 65 Deg C, At the end of this detergent
wash, the liquor is drained and the denim is rinsed
at least twice with plain water and then finished
off with a 5 minute wash with brightener, softeners
etc.

ACID WASH is available as off white coloured
powder in standard 25 Kgs HDPE Drum.
STORAGE
AND HANDLING :
TLP
ACID WASH should be stored in preferably
cool and dry place. Care must be taken to ensure that
the containers are kept closed after use to prevent
moisture entry into the product. Other handling instructions
are available on request.
SHELF LIFE :
TLP
ACID WASH is stable under recommended storage
conditions for a period of 6 months with less than
10% drop in activity. M.L.’s standard assay
method for cellulase activity is available on request.
